What is the HPHT single crystal diamond?

Natural diamonds have limitations in size and cost in engineering applications. However, the advancements in synthesis processes under high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) make it possible to produce synthetic diamonds MCD with single crystal structures.

Compared to natural diamond, high pressure high temperature (HPHT) single crystal diamond has ensured material consistency and volume production. As it is the type Ib diamond which contains nitrogen, so it is in yellow colour.

Single crystal CVD diamond is type IIa, has higher purity, higher hardness, larger areas or sizes, controlled shapes, and more consistent properties.

HPHT diamonds, also known as mono diamonds and MCD, are type Ib, as there are metals added during the synthesis process, so there are more crystal defects. These defects can give HPHT diamonds a higher toughness compared to CVD diamond. Sometimes, a balance between hardness and toughness is required for super-hard materials.

Our CVD diamond has 4pt (100), 2pt (110), and 3pt (111) crystal orientations, therefore, we grade them to CVD-M, CVD-C (P4P2), and CVD-C (P2). However, our HPHT single crystal diamond is 4pt (100) orientation on the top and bottom faces.
